Coordinator Heritage, Country and Culture
The Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Coordinator Heritage, Country and Culture.
Section 50D applies to this position and applications are open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This role will assist the Lands and Heritage Manager to manage the use of land assets to create opportunities to enable Traditional Owner care of country.
Key details:
Full time position, fixed term contract (two years).
Salary range between $98,035 - $110,276 per annum depending on skills/experience, plus superannuation.
Based in Busselton.

Coordinate the Land Management System (GIS and workflow data system) including onboarding leaded land.
Maintain GIS data and produce maps and related products to facilitate decision making about potential land transfers, land use planning, Aboriginal cultural heritage matters and other related projects.
Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure Noongar/Aboriginal values are understood, respected and appropriate protocols are followed as afforded under legislation and lore.
Work with the relevant committees and stakeholders to deliver heritage protection and conservation programs to protect and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage.
Review/prepare documents including reports, briefing papers, correspondence, submissions, and advice on operational lands, heritage, and cultural issues.
Coordinate timely responses to activity notices; arrange and participate in survey selection meetings. Manage any follow-up action required in relation to survey or monitor team selection.
Attend heritage surveys, liaise with government, mining companies, other proponents, anthropologists/ archaeologists, heritage service providers and other consultants to obtain copies of finalised survey reports. Prepare reports on heritage matters for relevant committees and stakeholders.
Occasionally may be required to work outdoors, on country. In addition, 4x4 driving may be required.

Aboriginality is considered an essential criterion (under S50D).
Experience in using GIS mapping systems/applications.
Computer skills in Microsoft Office suite and ability to use databases and information management systems.
Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
An understanding of Western Australian land tenure.
Well-developed written and oral communications skills in a cross-cultural context, including an ability to prepare reports, memos, and other documentation (including maps).
Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal society and culture and the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, particularly around Aboriginal heritage, native title, and other land matters.
Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies.
Problem solving skills and initiative.
Current drivers’ licence.
