Membership application

Membership applications will be processed at the next meeting of the membership committee, who will then inform you if your application has been accepted.

To be eligible for membership of the Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation, you must be at least 18 years of age, and be a part of the South West Boojarah group according to the description set out in schedule 2 of the South West Boojarah Indigenous Land Use Agreement (PDF 86.4KB).

Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation rule book

By applying for membership of Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation you agree to be bound by the corporation’s rule book (PDF 2.4 MB), in particular, rule 5.4.2 which defines members’ responsibilities:

“Each member has the following responsibilities:

(a) to comply with the CATSI Act and this Rule Book;

(b) to notify the Corporation of any change in their address within 28 days;

(c) to comply with any code of conduct adopted by the corporation;

(d) to treat other members, staff, directors, and the members of the Noongar Corporations Committee, with respect and dignity; and

(e) to not behave in a way that significantly interferes with the operation of the corporation or of directors’ meetings or general meetings.”

Frequently asked questions

  • Upon request, the CSC/SWALSC assists with the administration of processing pending membership applications (for example, maintaining the Regional Corporation’s membership database, preparing information for the membership subcommittee, corresponding with membership applicants).

    On request the CSC/SWALSC research unit considers the family history information provided on a membership application form and provides a recommendation to the Regional Corporation (Board) in regards to an applicant’s descent from an apical ancestor of the [name] agreement group.

    When necessary, the CSC research unit conducts further research into an applicant’s family history for the purpose of verifying whether the applicant is a member of the [name] agreement group (Karri Karrak Rule Book, Membership of the Corporation, 5.2.2 (a)).

  • Personal information, including a person’ s name, address, contact details, date of birth, and family history information, are protected under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and cannot be collected or used without your consent.

    The CSC/SWALSC research unit provides a recommendation to Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation in regards to whether an applicant is a member of the Karri Karrak agreement group. A person is a member of an agreement group, if they meet the criteria of the Karri Karrak Native Title Agreement Group Description (Schedule 2).

    In order to be able to provide a research recommendation on agreement group membership, the CSC/SWALSC research unit needs to consider an applicant’s family history details.
