Wallcliffe House development

The Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation prepared the following statement regarding the Wallcliffe House development for presentation to a Council meeting of the Augusta Margaret River Shire in February 2024.

This region refers to the Wardandi, Piblemen, and Kaneang Noongar language or dialectical groups. It encompasses towns including Busselton, Capel, Margaret River, Witchcliffe, Augusta, Windy Harbour, Northcliffe, Pemberton, Manjimup, Bridgetown, and Nannup.

Karri Karrak is led by the expert cultural governance, advice, and instruction of its Cultural Advice Committee. The committee is composed of senior Knowledge Holders who are experts on all matters pertaining, but not limited to, culture, heritage, and Country.

The Cultural Advice Committee ensures at all times that Wardandi, Pibelmen, and Kaneang cultural protocols and practices are valued, met, honoured, respected, and abided by.

While the Wallcliffe House proposal predates the establishment of Karri Karrak, the corporation respects and supports the valuable engagement and cultural advice that has been provided by senior members of the Cultural Advice Committee on the project to date.

Karri Karrak looks forward to continuing this engagement through the corporations consultation channels articulated in its governing documents; engagement that will inform the production of best practice cultural heritage and environmental management frameworks with regard to the project.

Karri Karrak is committed to ensuring legislative and regulatory compliance, due diligence, and best-practice engagement to preserve, protect, and promote Wardandi, Pibelmen, and Kaneang Country, Culture, and future generations.
