On 30 September 2026, the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations (ORIC) made ‘Registrar initiated changes’ to Karri Karrak Aboriginal Corporation’s Rule Book, publishing the updated Rule Book on the ORIC website.
The Registrar has the authority to make such changes under section 69-35 of the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act).
In the month since Karri Karrak was advised of the changes, we have sought further legal advice and worked with the Trustee to check that these changes comply with the Noongar Boodja Trust Deed and do not put the Corporation at risk of receiving a breach notice from the Trustee.
These discussions are ongoing. The Corporation has not yet decided whether to write to the Registrar again about these matters.
FYI for members: The Corporation has advised ORIC of errors in the updated Rule Book. Some references say “Rule 0” instead of the correct rule number.
While these errors remain, the Corporation does not consider this document the final version of the Rule Book.
The new rules and the updated Rule Book can be found here: https://karrikarrak.org.au/documents
We look forward to providing our members the latest updates to this matter at the AGM, this Saturday 7th November at the Hilton Garden Inn, Busselton.
